WEST COLUMBIAKeep the Midlands Beautiful has kicked off its annual shoe drive fundraiser, which will run through April 30.

The fundraiser supports the organization’s mission to engage, inspire and educate Midlands residents to invest in their communities through litter prevention, recycling and beautification efforts.

Community members can participate by donating new or gently worn shoes of any type or size. Donations may be dropped off at KMB’s office at 1305 Augusta Road in West Columbia, where collection bins are located on the front porch.

Local businesses, schools, churches and neighborhood groups are also encouraged to get involved by hosting collection sites. For more information, contact KMB at 803-733-1139 or [email protected].

Funds raised from the drive are based on the total weight of shoes collected and will help support programs such as volunteer litter cleanups, as well as the purchase of supplies like signage, gloves and litter grabbers across Richland and Lexington counties.

Donated shoes will also benefit global communities through Funds2Orgs, which redistributes footwear to micro-entrepreneurs in developing nations, helping create small business opportunities and improve livelihoods.

“We’re so excited for this year’s shoe drive,” said Program Coordinator Sydni Wilson. “So many people have shoes they no longer wear or have outgrown. Donating them keeps shoes out of landfills, supports our local programs and helps families in developing nations. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
