The Lexington District One Educational Foundation recently awarded eight Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grant Awards to deserving recipients in Lexington County School District One. Fall Grant awards totaled $2,000 and will positively impact 2,338 students in six schools in the district.

The leadership at Michelin North America’s Lexington, SC is terrific to make these grants possible through generous annual donations. Accordingly, the Educational Foundation offers this grant opportunity to Lexington District One teachers in the fall and spring of each school year. Teachers can apply for up to $250 in grant funds to help provide unique educational experiences for their students. The grants enable teachers to purchase items that enhance students’ learning opportunities that are not typically supported by the school budget.
Some of the fall projects chosen included the creation of a garden where students with special abilities will learn to grow and maintain it in order to develop life skills; the purchase of building kits for a Makerspace area that connects literacy and STEAM skill; the development of a school-based business where Lexington One Transition Services classes serve teachers with a daily snack/drink cart in order to teach students job skills that could lead to future employment; providing LEGO sets and supplies to enable students to learn engineering and design skills; and the enhancement of literacy efforts via purchasing books designed for teaching and accelerating Reading Recovery students.
