The Lexington County Fire Service is advising residents a large wildland fire incident occurring in Georgia is producing smoke that is spreading across portions of Georgia and South Carolina. As a result, moderate smoke conditions are expected to remain present throughout Lexington County for an unknown period of time.

Residents might notice haze, reduced visibility and the smell of smoke in various parts of the county. These conditions might linger for a prolonged time and are directly related to the wildfire activity in Georgia and are not the result of local fire incidents.

We ask the community not to call 911 or the Lexington County Fire Service to report the general smoke conditions associated with this ongoing Georgia wildfire. This will help keep emergency lines open for active emergencies within Lexington County.

The Lexington County Fire Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. As always, we encourage residents to stay aware of changing conditions and to exercise caution, especially those with respiratory sensitivities.

Additionally, the Lexington County Fire Service reminds the public the statewide burn ban remains in effect. No outdoor burning of any kind is permitted at this time.
