Family-friendly Halloween event returns for the first time since 2019

The South Carolina Philharmonic presents Halloween at Hogwarts on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the Koger Center for the Arts. This familyfriendly concert will be presented for the first time since 2019. The SC Philharmonic will turn the Koger Center into that famous school of witchcraft and wizardry, with fun activities in the lobby during pre-show. The program includes plenty of music from the popular Harry Potter films, alongside thrilling themes from films like Jaws, Beetlejuice, Psycho and other spooky fare. Tickets may be purchased by visiting scphilharmonic.com or by calling the Koger Center Box Office at 803-251-2222.

The SC Philharmonic has not produced a Hogwarts themed event since 2019 due to the effects of the pandemic. The previous iterations of the Halloween and Harry Potter
mash-up were incredibly successful for the orchestra, so the organization is delighted to
return to the Koger Center with Halloween at Hogwarts in 2022. The combination of
familiar music from the Harry Potter films with equally recognizable themes from thrillers
makes this concert a good entry point into classical music for Midlands families. The SC
Phil also collaborates with Steve Borders (Koger Center Technical Director) to elevate
the concert with exciting stage lighting that brings the music to life through color and
movement.

This concert also furnishes pre-concert family fun in the lobby by providing Hogwartsthemed activities. Audience members can get their very own lighting bolt on their head,
engage and learn about amazing creatures through a partnership with Carolina Wildlife,
get their picture snapped at the SC Phil step-and-repeat, or grab one of the “Have You
Seen This Wizard?” frames for a photo op with family and friends. Costumes are highly
encouraged.

Music Director Morihiko Nakahara delights in programming a Halloween concert for families. “When I was growing up in Japan, Halloween had not yet become a big deal,” said Nakahara. “Knowing this upon my arrival to the U.S. at the age of 15, my host family made me go trick-or-treating with their younger sons on that first Halloween. The Halloween tradition goes far beyond candies and includes a vastly rich tradition of symphonic music from original compositions like Night on a Bald Mountain to film soundtracks like the Harry Potter series.” Nakahara also cited the organization’s interest in making Halloween at Hogwarts “an annual family event centered around Harry Potter and spooky musical adventures.”

Halloween at Hogwarts will be presented on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the Koger Center for the Arts. This event is in-person only. Tickets are $50 for Gryffindor Section, $40 for Slytherin Section, $30 for Ravenclaw Section, and $20 for Hufflepuff Section. Audiences do not have to buy tickets in the house that they were assigned to by the sorting hat. Tickets may be purchased at scphilharmonic.com or by calling the Koger Center Box Office at 803-251-2222.
