COLUMBIA, S.C. — Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union is accepting applications for its fourth annual Teacher of the Game program, presented in partnership with the University of South Carolina’s Gamecock Athletics.
The program recognizes outstanding K-12 educators from across South Carolina during Gamecock home football games throughout the 2026 season.
“Palmetto Citizens’ story began with teachers coming together to support one another,” said Emilie Lewis, director of community engagement. “That legacy of service and community continues to guide us today. The Teacher of the Game program is one way we honor our roots and express our gratitude for the vital role local educators play in shaping the future of our community.”
Current full-time South Carolina K-12 educators are eligible to apply or nominate themselves by completing the online application. The deadline to apply is Oct. 1.
Each Teacher of the Game honoree will receive:
- A $1,000 award from Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union.
- Four tickets to the Gamecock football game at which they will be recognized.
- Recognition on the stadium scoreboard and over the public address system during the game.
Founded 90 years ago as the Columbia Teachers Credit Union by Midlands-area educators, Palmetto Citizens has maintained a strong commitment to supporting education. Today, that mission continues through the Palmetto Citizens Foundation and a variety of initiatives benefiting teachers, students and schools across South Carolina. Launched in 2023, the Teacher of the Game program celebrates the lasting impact educators have on their communities.
In addition to the Teacher of the Game program, Palmetto Citizens is encouraging participation in two other education initiatives:
- Back-to-School Drive: Through Aug. 9, all South Carolina branch locations are collecting new school supplies, including notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers and backpacks, to help local students begin the school year prepared for success.
- Teacher Grants Program: Applications are being accepted through Sept. 30 for the Palmetto Citizens Foundation’s Teacher Grants Program, which provides funding for classroom projects and educational needs.
