One in nine children in South Carolina will experience the death of a parent or sibling before the age of 18. Processing that loss can be one of the most difficult challenges a child faces.
To help families navigate that journey, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands is offering the Healing Hearts Grief Program for children ages 5 to 18 who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
Through Healing Hearts, children connect with peers who are also grieving, creating a safe and supportive environment to express emotions. Participants are guided through therapeutic activities and provided tools and resources to help them process their grief in healthy ways.
The program consists of four classes, each centered on a specific topic:
-
Emotions
-
Memories
-
Coping skills
-
Changes
Parent and caregiver sessions are held concurrently and focus on the same topics, equipping families to continue grief-processing work at home.
All classes are free, and dinner is provided.
