LEXINGTON, S.C. – A 25-year-old inmate at the Lexington County Detention Center died Friday after being transported to a local hospital.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the man as Morgan Daniel Kannaday of Gaston.
According to Sheriff Jay Koon, Kannaday was arrested on June 29 by South Carolina Highway Patrol officers on charges including traffic violations, driving under the influence, and a drug offense. He had been held at the detention center since his arrest.
On Friday morning, Kannaday was transported from the jail to Lexington Medical Center for medical treatment. Details about his medical condition or cause of death have not been released.
Per standard procedure, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is now conducting an independent investigation into Kannaday’s death.
