September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Lexington County Public Library (LCPL) joins the American Library Association (ALA) and other libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students a library card is an important tool on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

Through access to technology, media resources, educational programs and much more, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to purse their dreams and passions.

Libraries offer everything from early literacy programs to virtual homework assistance, helping transform lives and communities through education. At LCPL, you’ll find a variety of educational resources and activities, including online programs on Facebook and YouTube and extensive databases like Mango Languages, BrainPOP Jr. and Explora for elementary, middle and high schoolers.

LCPL continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. All 10 of the branches are now open for limited in-person services:

• New library card or transitioning from a temporary card
• Browsing of new materials displays (books and DVD’s)
• Computer use by appointment only (limited to one hour of use per patron)
• Use of self-checkout
• Mobile printing
• Self-service copier will be available with limited staff assistance
• In-building pick up and check out of items placed on hold

Call your local branch or visit lexcolibrary.com/locations for current hours of service.
Patrons are required to have temperature taken upon entering and wear a mask at all times while inside of a library facility, and masks should fully cover the nose and mouth. All LCPL buildings are adhering to occupancy limits, so you may experience a wait before entering a branch. Patrons should limit time in the building to allow more patrons to have an opportunity to use the library.

This year, DC’s Wonder Woman is embarking on a mission as Library Card Sign-up Month Honorary Chair, promoting the value of libraries and encouraging everyone to get their very own library card.
