The second annual 803 Day Celebration, held August 1–3, brought more than 2,000 people together for a weekend of Midlands pride, fun, and community spirit. Events included a sponsor mixer in West Columbia, a 5K Run/Walk in Forest Acres, a citywide scavenger hunt through Richland and Lexington counties, and a free festival at Doko Meadows Park in Blythewood.

Founded to celebrate the culture, people, and businesses of the 803 area code, this year’s event topped its debut in both attendance and business participation. Visitors came from across the region—including Lexington, Irmo, West Columbia, Orangeburg, Camden, and Columbia—and even from neighboring North Carolina and Georgia.

“This weekend was proof of what happens when a community shows up for itself,” said founder Khali Gallman. “It’s more than just a celebration; it’s a love letter to the Midlands.”

The weekend’s 5K Run/Walk benefited Cola Rose Shower, a nonprofit supporting women overcoming health challenges. The scavenger hunt connected participants with local businesses and landmarks, and Sunday’s festival featured more than 25 vendors, food trucks, live music, and community resource partners. Donations collected included six boxes of canned goods for Christian Assistance Bridge and four bins of school supplies for the JoO Foundation.

Sade James-Bethea of SJB Event Management coordinated vendors, site visits, and festival logistics. “This was about bringing a vision to life that empowers our community,” she said.

Local businesses also saw a boost thanks to $8.03 specials, and the event gained extensive media coverage. Planning is already underway for 2026. For more information, visit 803day.org or call 803-922-5310.
