On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the local leaders of Kinetic by Windstream recognized Carolina Springs Middle School history teacher Matthew Helm as the winner of the Windstream Teacher Classroom Supplies Grant contest for South Carolina. Accordingly, they presented a grant check for $1,000.00 to the Lexington One Educational Foundation, which will administer the grant funds.

Kinetic by Windstream recently accepted teacher nominations for the grant as part of a company-wide initiative to give back to the community and to show their appreciation for teachers. Students and community leaders were asked to write about their favorite teachers and submit their nominations to the company.

Out of 360 plus submissions, Mr. Matt Helm was selected as the honored teacher to represent South Carolina. According to Windstream, one student wrote “Mr. Helm isn’t like other history teachers. He gets us to do hands-on activities in order to learn and he believes that the best way to learn is to get involved with the situation.”

During the presentation, Mr. Helm shared the news with his students that the grant money will be used for purchasing educational tools for the students to use in his classroom. Carolina Springs Middle School Principal Dr. Brice Cockfield congratulated Mr. Helms for this honor. Julie Anderson Washburn, Executive Director for the Educational Foundation stated,

“This Kinetic by Windstream Teacher Grant is such a wonderful gift to Mr. Helm and his students. It will enable him to purchase some amazing educational tools to use in teaching his students and hopefully instill a love of learning in his students. Granted I’m guessing he is already a pretty awesome teacher to have been selected for this honor.”
