For the 21st consecutive season—and 11th in Lexington County—summer will once again feature Coastal Plain League action from the Lexington County Blowfish.
The new season kicks off Thursday on the road against the Florence Flamingos. On Friday, the Blowfish officially open their home schedule against the Macon Bacon.
The following night, the first home exhibition game featuring the Glowfish will be preceded by the third annual USO softball game between the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The contest is part of USO Night, with proceeds benefiting the United Service Organizations, which assists service members and their families.
June Promotions and Events
June 5 · Dress Like a Farmer Night & Cowfish Jerseys Debut
Fans are encouraged to break out overalls, boots, and their best farmer attire. In partnership with the Lexington County Farm Bureau, the Blowfish will debut their cow-print “Cowfish” jerseys. A live auction for the jerseys will conclude at the end of the game, followed by postgame fireworks.
June 6 · Cowboys, Cowgirls & Cowfish Night
The western theme continues with prizes provided by Ariat. Fans are encouraged to dress the part and enjoy a second night of Cowfish festivities.
June 12 · Star Wars Night
Fans can come in costume or casual attire for one of the team’s most popular themed nights, capped off with postgame fireworks inspired by Star Wars.
June 19 · Hooties Night
Last year’s Coastal Plain League Promotion of the Year returns, with players wearing specialty Hooties USA jerseys. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Lexington Health Foundation Partners Program. The evening will also include the Blowfish Alumni Game, featuring former players competing against the current roster.
This year’s roster features 38 players. Returning standouts with local ties include Parker Mergo (Brookland-Cayce/Newberry), who has earned the title of “Mr. Blowfish,” Blake Martin (Dutch Fork), Jayden Williams (Spring Valley/The Citadel), Toby Sobieralski (Lexington/USC Aiken), and Lucas Highberger (Chapin/USC Aiken).
The Blowfish will also have a new look in the dugout. Ted Falkner takes over as head coach. A veteran at the collegiate level, Falkner brings five years of summer league experience and has previously coached at USC Beaufort, Madonna, and Viterbo.
“My family and I are really blessed and excited for this opportunity,” Falkner said. “After meeting with Bill Shanahan and talking with Tony Baldwin, I felt that this organization is special. Lexington County and its love and history for baseball is something I can’t wait to be a part of for the 2026 season.”
Falkner inherits a team that has reached the postseason three consecutive years and is just two seasons removed from a Coastal Plain League championship.
“I’m looking for players who are committed—to the process, to what it takes to play at the next level, and to personal growth and development,” he said. “I want guys who love the game, embrace the Lexington County community, and represent this organization the right way.”
On the field, fans will also notice a major upgrade. With support from the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission (LCRAC), the stadium now features a newly installed AstroTurf surface completed in March.
In addition to improving durability and reducing rainouts, the synthetic field will allow for expanded year-round use for both sporting and community events.
