Sometimes, we are unsure whether we are overweight or our weight is in the right range for our sex, height, and body weight. We all have learned that being overweight, and especially obese, we are at a higher risk for certain types of cancer, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. None of us wants to cut our lives short, or live with a disability, especially when we possibly could have prevented it.
When one is obese, usually the mirror or the scale will tell us. Those who are unsure can mathematically do the body mass index as it is simple.
Calculate your BMI
1. Example, 5feet, 3 inches = 63 inches Square that #, 63 X 63 = 3,969
2. Divide weight (138 pounds) by that number, i.e, 3,969 divided by 138 = 28.7
3. Last Step – Multiply the last result 28.7 X 703 = 20.1 * This is a normal weight
Underweight 18.5
Normal 18.5 – 24.9
Overweight 25.0 – 29.9
Obese BMI 30 – or higher
