Chef Chris Williams of Roy’s Grille, located at 7971 N Woodrow Street in Irmo, will be competing in this year’s Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans this weekend. He faces off with 12 other competitors all vying to become the ‘King of American Seafood’. Williams was named South Carolina Chef Ambassadors for 2022 by Governor Henry McMaster and competed in the World Food Championships (WFC) in Dallas, Texas. The WFC is the largest Food Sport competition, where grand champions of previous events convene for a chance at winning the ultimate food crown and a share of hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money.
Other chefs competing in the competition will represent Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia.
Williams will have to prepare seafood while being filmed in front of a live audience. The event is Saturday, August 5 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
