After several weeks of sightings, a massive 12-foot albino reticulated python has been captured near the Mid-Carolina High School campus in Prosperity.

The snake was wrangled by Warren Gallman, his son Jordan, nephew Jayden Atchison, and family friend Evan Turner.

Reticulated pythons, native to Southeast Asia, are the world’s longest snake species and the third heaviest. They are non-venomous constrictors and can grow over 20 feet long.

Experts believe the python was likely an escaped pet, as the species cannot survive South Carolina’s winters. Unlike Florida, which faces a serious invasive python problem, such sightings remain rare in the Palmetto State.

For now, Gallman is keeping the python safe until a more permanent home is found.
