The South Carolina State Museum is returning its highly popular planetarium show, Áróra, beginning November 2. This immersive experience, produced in Iceland, invites visitors to explore the mesmerizing colors of the aurora borealis in stunning 4K resolution, alongside breathtaking Icelandic landscapes and cosmic vistas.

With over 10,000 tickets sold during its initial run, Áróra has become one of the museum’s most beloved planetarium attractions. The show is inside the museum’s 55-foot digital dome, offering a unique look at the Northern Lights—a rare sight in South Carolina.

“We had a unique opportunity to glimpse the aurora in South Carolina last spring,” said Dr. Liz Klimek, Planetarium Manager. “The return of Áróra lets visitors explore the beauty and origins of the Northern Lights without leaving Columbia.”

In addition to the dazzling visuals, Áróra examines how cultures worldwide have woven the Northern Lights into their myths and legends, creating a rich narrative that combines science and storytelling.

General admission to the South Carolina State Museum is $13 for adults, $11 for seniors, and $10 for children ages 3-12. Admission for infants 2 and under is free. Planetarium and 4D show tickets are available at an additional cost. The museum operates Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
