A 3-game winning streak is how the Lexington County Blowfish closed out the first half of the Coastal Plain League schedule.

All three high-scoring games came in comeback fashion during the 5-day stretch. The wins allowed Lexington County to finish the first half tied with Asheboro Zookeepers for second place at 17-11, 1 ½ games behind the Forest City Owls.

Lexington County faces Forest City twice in the next seven days seeking its first win in the series.

The Blowfish’s winning streak began with an 18-14 win in extra innings over the Macon Bacon.

Zack Cowart of River Bluff kicked off a 7-run rally in the Top 10th with an RBI single. CPL All-Star Brandon Gibbs of Spring Valley followed with an RBI single and Gray Wells of Chapin added a 2-run single as he and Blake Martin of Dutch Fork each finished with 4 RBI.

A couple of nights later, Lexington County scored six unanswered runs for a 12-8 win over the Boone Bigfoots at home. Gibbs drove in two runs, Matthew Rollison went 3-4 with an RBI and Ty Marshall of Clemson and Brookland-Cayce went 2-3 with an RBI.

The quartet of Mickey Sheetz, Hunter Phipps, Ben Brash and Tyson Collier combined for 10 strikeouts.

A day after the annual Fourth of July intrasquad matchup between the Blowfish and Glowfish, Lexington County closed out the first half in Florence. It was another extra inning affair as the Blowfish down three runs early rallied for an 11-10 victory.

Antonio Ortiz went 2-5 with five RBI and Rollison went 3-6 with three RBI for Lexington County.
