The driving range got its name because many golfers spend most of their practice time hitting drivers. A solid drive certainly makes the next shot easier than playing from the woods or out of bounds. However, golfers should spend more time practicing shots played from the ground rather than only hitting off the tee.
It is also beneficial to experiment with recovery shots, such as controlled hooks and slices, as well as intentionally high and low ball flights. Developing these skills can help golfers handle unexpected situations on the course.
Smart players understand that nearly half of their score is determined by chipping and putting. For that reason, it is important to practice the entire game, not just long tee shots. A well-rounded practice routine leads to better consistency and lower scores.
Happy New Year, and enjoy your time on the course.
