A proper finishing position starts with the lower body leading the way. As your hips shift forward, your back arches slightly, and your head stays behind — a natural result of starting the downswing from the ground up.

About two-thirds of the way back, skilled players’ bodies move in two directions at once: the lower body begins toward the target, while the upper body lags slightly behind. Many golfers try to fix early release or “casting” mistakes by forcing the upper body, but the real solution is initiating the downswing from the feet and hips first.

This lateral and rotational movement of the hips is something we all learned naturally as children when throwing a ball for distance. Apply the same principle to your golf swing, and you might find it works just like it does for the pros!
