The Jasper Project has announced the roster of Midlands-area visual artists selected to participate in Jasper’s Degenerate Art Project II, to be held February 11–28 at Stormwater Studios, 413 Pendleton Street in Columbia’s Congaree Vista.
A total of 43 artists were chosen by a panel of artists and Jasper Project board members, including guest artist Susan Lenz. The exhibition responds to requests from artists and patrons following Jasper’s inaugural Degenerate Art Project in July 2025 for a second open-call exhibition with an extended showing period.
The title Degenerate Art Project I and II references the Nazi Party’s 1937 Entartete Kunst (“Degenerate Art”) exhibition in Munich, where more than 650 works of Modernist art were displayed alongside mocking graffiti and labels in an effort to ridicule the artists and their work. The original exhibition included pieces by 112 artists such as Picasso, Mondrian, Chagall, Kandinsky, Klee, and Dix. An overview of this historical period is available through the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Selected Degenerate Art Project II artists include:
Sarah Bauer, Pam Bowers, Kimber Carpenter, Michael Cassidy, Joe Churchill, Jane Couch-Osmelowski, Thomas Crouch, Corey “Roc Bottom” Davis, Kirstin Dow, Jakeem Da Dream, Sharon Funderburk, Ron Hagell, Betsy Halford, Mary Ann Haven, Leila Heidari, B.A. Hohman, TaJuan “TJ” Huiett, Jordan Johnson, Alexander McDonald Jr., Janet L.
