{"id":9097,"date":"2026-10-22T15:49:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T15:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gpstrianglenews.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/22\/counselor-joins-south-carolina-pediatric-alliance\/"},"modified":"2026-10-22T15:49:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T15:49:47","slug":"counselor-joins-south-carolina-pediatric-alliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gpstrianglenews.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/22\/counselor-joins-south-carolina-pediatric-alliance\/","title":{"rendered":"Counselor joins South Carolina Pediatric Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Katie Brave brings experience supporting children, teens and families<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>COLUMBIA &mdash; The South Carolina Pediatric Alliance (SCPA) has added Katie Brave, a licensed professional counselor, to its team.<\/p>\n<p>Brave specializes in supporting women, children and teens through mental health challenges, using psychotherapy approaches based on cognitive behavioral and family systems counseling theories.<\/p>\n<p>Her areas of focus include depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, crisis management and coping skills.<\/p>\n<p>She earned a master&rsquo;s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Columbia International University and a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Brave previously served as a school mental health counselor in Lexington Two School District, working with students from elementary through high school. She also worked as a mental health consultant with GLEAMNS Head Start, providing behavioral support to students, staff and parents.<\/p>\n<p>For the past five years, she has volunteered with the Miss South Carolina Organization, helping delegates focus on their overall wellness.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are excited to welcome Katie to the South Carolina Pediatric Alliance,&rdquo; said Dr. Alicia McFarland, SCPA chief medical officer. McFarland praised Brave&rsquo;s experience and compassionate approach, noting her commitment to creating a supportive environment where children and families feel heard and equipped with tools to thrive.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of work, Brave enjoys reading, crafting, spa days, trips with friends and spending time on Lake Murray with her husband.
