NEWBERRY, S.C.<\/span> — A local fall tradition is reaching a milestone as Newberry’s annual Oktoberfest celebrates its 25th anniversary Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, in downtown Newberry.<\/p>\n

The festivities begin Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with Brews and Bites, featuring live music on the entertainment stage. Vendors will offer a variety of items, including German dishes. Official event merchandise will be available for purchase both days.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with new attractions and traditional favorites marking the festival’s 25th anniversary.<\/p>\n

The day will begin with an opening ceremony featuring a keg tap inspired by Munich’s Oktoberfest. In addition to live entertainment, the festival will feature a best German outfit competition and a new steinholding competition.<\/p>\n

Winners of the steinholding competition will have the opportunity to compete in the South Carolina state and national championships.<\/p>\n

Several biergartens throughout the event area will offer a variety of German and domestic alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n

Family fun and festival attractions<\/h2>\n

Oktoberfest offers activities for all ages, including a Kinderfest Zone featuring face painting, carnival rides, magic shows, arts and crafts and other activities for children.<\/p>\n

New this year is a Touch-A-Truck area where children and adults can explore a variety of vehicles and equipment.<\/p>\n

For shoppers, vendors will line Main Street on Saturday with handmade and homemade items, including jewelry, candles, home décor and more.<\/p>\n

“Reaching 25 years is an incredible milestone for Newberry Oktoberfest and for our community,” said Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Collin Shealy.<\/p>\n

“Generations of families have made memories here, and local businesses, vendors, volunteers and community partners have all played a role in making this event what it is today. We’re excited to celebrate that history while creating another unforgettable weekend in downtown Newberry.”<\/p>\n
