Jury finds defendant guilty after Pelion traffic stop uncovered more than 93 grams of methamphetamine and a firearm.<\/i><\/p>\n
A Wagener man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of methamphetamine trafficking and a weapons charge in Lexington County.<\/p>\n
Christopher Lamar Corbitt, 34, was found guilty of Trafficking Methamphetamine, more than 28 grams but less than 100 grams, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime following a jury trial before Circuit Court Judge Martha Rivers. The sentence was imposed June 17, 2026.<\/p>\n
Under South Carolina law, drug trafficking is classified as a violent and serious offense. Corbitt will not be eligible for parole.<\/p>\n
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitors Player Long and Melissa Moon. The investigation was conducted by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.<\/p>\n
According to prosecutors, investigators with the sheriff’s department’s Multi-Agency Narcotic Enforcement Team had been conducting an ongoing investigation into Corbitt during the summer of 2024.<\/p>\n
On July 8, 2024, law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop involving Corbitt in the Pelion area of Lexington County. A search of the vehicle uncovered more than 93 grams of methamphetamine and a firearm. Investigators also located additional evidence indicating the drugs were intended for distribution.<\/p>\n
“Methamphetamine has a devastating impact on our communities,” Assistant Solicitor Long said. “This verdict and sentence demonstrate our commitment to working alongside law enforcement in aggressively prosecuting drug traffickers who threaten the safety of Lexington County residents.”<\/p>\n
Corbitt will be transported to the South Carolina Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
