A new in-season high school baseball tournament centered in Lexington County will take place next year.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the Lexington County Blowfish and the Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission announced their co-venture which will pit eight top high school baseball programs against each other in a tournament.<\/p>\n
The 2027 Spring Break High School Invitational will feature Lexington County teams Lexington, River Bluff, Brookland-Cayce and Chapin against four visiting teams from March 28 through April 1.<\/p>\n
The games will take place at Lexington County Baseball Stadium, whose $1.5 million field renovation to AstroTurf made it possible, according to LCRAC Executive Director Randy Gibson.<\/p>\n
LCRAC owns the stadium and leases it to the Blowfish during the summer months.
“On behalf of the Blowfish and LCRAC, we are excited to host this brand-new showcase for our local Lexington County players,” said Blowfish co-owner Bill Shanahan, “And hosting high school teams from across the state and the region is perfect to travel to beautiful Lexington County and play ball on what Lexington County calls our ‘Green Diamond Jewel’ we call Lexington County Baseball Stadium.”<\/p>\n
“This spring break tourney provides an awesome opportunity for our players and program to not only get to play at a great facility, but to showcase the great baseball community we have in Lexington County,” River Bluff baseball coach Mark Bonnette said.<\/p>\n
