<\/p>\nOne of the first things a new golfer hears is to “keep your head down” and “keep your eye on the ball.” While well-intentioned, that advice can sometimes be misunderstood.<\/p>\n
The player in today’s example shows many solid fundamentals, but at the top of the backswing, his face is no longer visible. This typically indicates the head is being held down too rigidly.<\/p>\n
Keeping the head down excessively can restrict a full shoulder turn, leading to a shorter backswing and reduced power. In reality, your eyes can move independently within their sockets. By allowing your chin to stay slightly up, you can still keep your eyes on the ball without limiting your natural rotation.<\/p>\n
A fuller shoulder turn creates a longer backswing—and longer swings generally produce longer shots.<\/p>\n
