Arts Center of Kershaw County<\/span><\/span> will welcome the Dick Goodwin Big Band<\/span><\/span> for an evening of live jazz on Wednesday, May 28, at 7:30 p.m., bringing one of South Carolina’s most celebrated musical ensembles to the Wood Auditorium for the Center’s season finale.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $40 for preferred seating, which includes a concession voucher. Tickets may be purchased online at Arts Center of Kershaw County<\/a> or by calling (803) 425-7676.<\/p>\n

Led by acclaimed trumpeter, composer, arranger, and educator Gordon “Dick” Goodwin<\/span><\/span>, the Dick Goodwin Big Band has been a cornerstone of the Midlands jazz scene for decades. The ensemble is known for its powerful swing arrangements, beloved standards, and world-class musicianship, promising an evening of timeless big band sound.<\/p>\n

Goodwin is widely recognized as one of South Carolina’s most influential musical figures. A Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina<\/span><\/span>, he joined the university in 1973 to help establish its doctoral composition program and lead theory and composition studies. Over the course of his career, he has served as a composer, conductor, producer, educator, and performer, with works performed across the United States and internationally.<\/p>\n

In 2001, Goodwin received the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award<\/span><\/span>, the state’s highest honor in the arts. He is also recognized as a Yamaha Trumpet Artist and continues to perform with both the Dick Goodwin Quintet and Big Band.<\/p>\n

The Dick Goodwin Big Band remains a fixture across the Southeast, appearing at jazz festivals, concert series, and special events throughout South Carolina. Known for polished musicianship and dynamic performances, the group features many of the region’s top jazz artists and has built a loyal following.<\/p>\n

“This concert is a wonderful opportunity for our community to experience some of the true legends of South Carolina jazz,” said Chad Henderson<\/span><\/span>. “Dick Goodwin’s influence on music education and performance in our state is extraordinary, and we are honored to bring his incredible big band to Camden for a program of hits from Broadway and beyond.”<\/p>\n

The concert will take place at the Arts Center of Kershaw County, located at 810 Lyttleton Street in Camden<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n
