Despite the urging of her handmaidens Belinda, portrayed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Maria Beery<\/span><\/span>, and Second Woman, sung alternately by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Paula Morris<\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Janice Mabrey<\/span><\/span>, she has chosen not to accept suitors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"777\" data-end=\"1132\">Aeneas, portrayed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Roddey Smith<\/span><\/span>, fled Troy after it fell to the Spartans and follows his destiny of establishing a new home for his Trojan followers in Italy. When he and his son Ascanius, portrayed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lina Cordova<\/span><\/span>, stop in Carthage to rest and recover from their journey, the two monarchs fall in love.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1500\">Dido&rsquo;s happiness angers the wicked Sorcerer, portrayed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Ben Palmer<\/span><\/span>, and witches <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Belle Posso<\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Bella Strehl<\/span><\/span>, who plot to break up the happy couple through a scheme involving the spirit of Mercury, portrayed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Bri Palmer<\/span><\/span>, who also sings the Sailor.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1504\" data-end=\"1840\">Rounding out the cast are dancers and the onstage chorus, including Bethany Cely, Lilith Clary, Janice Mabrey, Patrick Pilat, and Dianne Palmer-Quay, along with the offstage chorus featuring Chavous Camp, Helen Camp, Will Cordova, Evelyn Clary, Douglas Deaderick, Robin Dorfer, Alex Mabrey, Sara Martinez, Duna Miller, and Kevin Oliver.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"2320\">The production is directed and produced by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Evelyn Clary<\/span><\/span>, musically directed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Grant Hamby<\/span><\/span>, accompanied by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Josh Evanovich<\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lucinda Shields<\/span><\/span>, choreographed by Maria Beery, and costumed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Rob Richards<\/span><\/span>, who also serves as propsmaster. A string quartet will also perform with the harpsichord. The opera is sung in English and runs about one hour.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2324\" data-end=\"2617\">Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. To encourage young people to gain exposure to opera, student tickets for the May 14 performance will be pay what you can. Those wishing to lend additional support may purchase friend tickets for $25 and super friend tickets for $50.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2621\" data-end=\"2822\">Tickets are available online at <a class=\"decorated-link cursor-pointer\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2653\" data-end=\"2745\">Midlands Light Opera Society<\/a> and may also be purchased at the door.
