From slavery to freedom, from Jim Crow to integration and beyond, Black students, staff, and faculty have helped shape the institution.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"1010\">Participants will join <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Jill Found<\/span><\/span> and members of a research team for a virtual discussion on ongoing projects aimed at documenting and preserving this history. The session will include a focus on the first generation of Black students to enroll at USC following desegregation in 1963.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1012\" data-end=\"1172\">The second session, <em data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1122\">We Will Build a New World Someday: The Congress of Racial Equality in Alabama, 1961&ndash;1963<\/em>, is scheduled for March 26 from noon to 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1174\" data-end=\"1493\">While the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Congress of Racial Equality<\/span><\/span> (CORE) is widely known for its work in the urban North and Mississippi, the organization was also active throughout the South. This presentation will explore CORE&rsquo;s organizing efforts in Alabama between 1962 and 1963 and its contributions to local civil rights movements.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1595\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Malcolm Cammeron<\/span><\/span>, a postdoctoral fellow with the center, will lead the session.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1597\" data-end=\"1708\">The final installment, <em data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1662\">Archival Show and Tell: New Acquisitions<\/em>, will be held April 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1710\" data-end=\"2011\">This session will showcase materials from the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">University of South Carolina Libraries<\/span><\/span>, including scrapbooks, glass plate photo negatives, newspapers, personal letters, and flyers.
