The run was part of the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics<\/span><\/span>, which raises awareness and support for Special Olympics programs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"646\" data-end=\"852\">Officers from the Irmo Police Department were joined by members of the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County Sheriff&rsquo;s Department<\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">South Carolina Law Enforcement Division<\/span><\/span>, and the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">South Carolina Forestry Commission<\/span><\/span> in the run.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"1005\">&ldquo;This was our second year to participate,&rdquo; said <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">John Hendricks<\/span><\/span>. &ldquo;Next year, we hope to have even more of our officers involved.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1007\" data-end=\"1173\">Hosted by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington-Richland School District Five<\/span><\/span>, the track and field competition featured athletes from across the district, including schools in the D5 and D6 areas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1281\">The Spring Games serve as a precursor to a larger, seven-mile Law Enforcement Torch Run scheduled for May.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1283\" data-end=\"1426\">The races and events are designed to promote teamwork, personal achievement, and community spirit&mdash;core values of the Special Olympics movement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Special Olympics South Carolina Spring Games came to Irmo High School on Tuesday, March 31, bringing athletes of all ages and abilities together for a day of competition and celebration.
