{"id":8261,"date":"2026-03-25T21:15:46","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T21:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gpstrianglenews.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/25\/new-turf-at-lexington-county-baseball-stadium-already-a-hit\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T21:15:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T21:15:46","slug":"new-turf-at-lexington-county-baseball-stadium-already-a-hit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gpstrianglenews.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/25\/new-turf-at-lexington-county-baseball-stadium-already-a-hit\/","title":{"rendered":"New Turf at Lexington County Baseball Stadium Already a Hit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"154\" data-end=\"262\"><em data-start=\"220\" data-end=\"262\">By <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Thomas Grant Jr.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"264\" data-end=\"442\">LEXINGTON, S.C. &mdash; The early returns are in on the newly installed AstroTurf at <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County Baseball Stadium<\/span><\/span>, and by all accounts, the synthetic surface is already a hit.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"444\" data-end=\"554\">Based on feedback from players and coaches who have taken the field, the consensus is overwhelmingly positive.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"556\" data-end=\"957\">&ldquo;I&rsquo;m so thankful for <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County Recreation &amp; Aging Commission<\/span><\/span>, Randy Gibson, Tommy Frazier, and Justin for making this happen,&rdquo; said <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Corey Warner<\/span><\/span>, owner and head coach of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">P27 Baseball Academy<\/span><\/span>. &ldquo;And all the work done behind the scenes to get it done. I think it&rsquo;s a great addition for the county and what it will bring to the baseball community here in Lexington.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"959\" data-end=\"1263\">&ldquo;I look forward to a bright future allowing the county to bring in top talent from all over the country. It is a pleasure to be part of the journey to make Lexington a destination for baseball. P27 is happy to be blessed to be a piece in this journey as we strive to have the best talent in the country.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1433\">P27 held a scrimmage at the stadium last week, just days after Division III teams from the Northeast and Georgia officially christened the field with a series of games.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1505\">For players, the new surface has already made a noticeable difference.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1507\" data-end=\"1772\">&ldquo;I&rsquo;m super excited about the Blowfish being turf now,&rdquo; said third baseman <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Jose Doubront<\/span><\/span>. &ldquo;I play the hot corner, so now I don&rsquo;t have to worry about bad hops. I also pitch, so I&rsquo;m super excited to not have to fix the mound with clay anymore.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"2026\">&ldquo;The thing that I&rsquo;m most excited about the newly turfed field is being able to come to practice and to games every day with a great environment and not having to worry about fixing the mound before I pitch,&rdquo; added <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Genis Lopez<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2028\" data-end=\"2312\">&ldquo;We are super thankful that we can compete on a field that so many people put time and effort building for us to play a game,&rdquo; <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Bryce Mucia<\/span><\/span> said. &ldquo;I am super excited to be able to play after it rained without having to worry about the condition of the field.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2314\" data-end=\"2602\">Improved weather durability and drainage have already proven beneficial. <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Bill Shanahan<\/span><\/span>, co-owner of the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County Blowfish<\/span><\/span>, witnessed it firsthand as P27 was still able to hold its scrimmage despite heavy rains moving through the Lexington area.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2604\" data-end=\"2743\">The Blowfish are scheduled to play their first official game on the new surface May 29 against the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Macon Bacon<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Thomas Grant Jr. LEXINGTON, S.C. &mdash; The early returns are in on the newly installed AstroTurf at Lexington County Baseball Stadium, and by all accounts, the synthetic surface is already a hit.
