The South Carolina State Museum will host Artist Homecoming 2025: Vault to Vision<\/strong>, a two-day celebration September 25–26 marking the reopening of the Lipscomb Art Gallery after more than two years of renovations and updates.<\/p>\n

“Artist Homecoming 2025: Vault to Vision is more than an event—it’s a reunion for South Carolina’s arts community and a celebration of visual culture and artists from across the state,<\/em>” said Paul Matheny, SCSM Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs. “With this program and the reopening of the Lipscomb Art Gallery, we are welcoming guests to a newly revitalized space and inviting the community to celebrate the people and stories that make South Carolina’s art scene so vibrant and inspiring.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

Festivities begin Thursday, Sept. 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.<\/strong> with a free evening reception celebrating the reopening of the Lipscomb Gallery and the debut of From the Vault: South Carolina Art from the Museum’s Collection<\/em>. The exhibition showcases works by artists and craftspeople with South Carolina ties, combining recent acquisitions with long-standing favorites from the museum’s collection.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/strong>, the celebration continues with ticketed programming designed for artists, curators, administrators, and art lovers. The day will feature panel discussions with leading South Carolina artists, behind-the-scenes tours of the museum’s art storage, interactive activities, and live performances. Visitors will also experience When I See Myself, I See . . .<\/em>, a collaborative portrait project by artist Natalie Daise, and explore the new Native Communities in South Carolina<\/em> display on the museum’s fourth floor.<\/p>\n

Tickets for Friday’s Artist Homecoming programming are $10 per person<\/strong> and include lunch. Admission to Thursday’s opening reception is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
