Lexington County leaders gathered last week to celebrate the opening of a long-awaited recycling and collection facility designed to better serve the growing community.<\/p>\n

The Augusta Road Collection and Recycling Center, located at 4765 Augusta Road, will officially open to the public on Friday, September 5, at 7 a.m. The new site replaces the Riverchase Way Collection Center, which permanently closed September 1.<\/p>\n

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the milestone, with county officials, staff, and community members in attendance.<\/p>\n

The project, nearly a decade in the making, was first introduced in 2016 as part of the county’s commitment to improve solid waste services for residents.<\/p>\n

“Closing Riverchase marks the end of an era, but the new Augusta Road site represents a major step forward in providing convenient, safe, and efficient services for our residents,” said Lee McIntyre, Lexington County’s Director of Solid Waste Management.<\/p>\n

The Augusta Road facility is designed to handle three times the capacity of Riverchase. Its expanded layout and location are expected to significantly ease traffic, eliminating an estimated 175,000 vehicles per year from the former site.<\/p>\n
