Columbia, S.C.<\/em> – Adults who want to improve their reading skills have a new, free opportunity thanks to Literacy SC’s Turning Pages Reading Lab<\/strong>, launching August 18<\/strong> at Richland Library Main<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Classes will be held every Monday and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Room M<\/strong>, and will continue through November 21<\/strong>. The Reading Lab is designed specifically for English-speaking adults who struggle with reading and want to gain confidence with everyday tasks like reading menus, street signs, instructions, and simple books.<\/p>\n

“This class is built to give adults a space where reading feels possible again,” said Susanna Shastri<\/strong>, program instructor for the Reading Lab. “We will start small, work collaboratively, and celebrate every letter, word, or sentence that clicks.”<\/p>\n

The class is small, supportive, and stress-free — no grades, no tests, and no pressure<\/strong>. Learners can enroll on-site by simply showing up, or call 803-216-5663<\/strong> to join ahead of time.<\/p>\n

The Reading Lab is part of Literacy SC’s mission to make reading well a reality for all. Since 1968, the organization has helped thousands of adults through its free one-on-one tutoring program, which is still available alongside the new class.<\/p>\n

Volunteers are also needed to help with setup, greet students, hand out materials, and support new learners. To get involved, visit literacysc.org\/point<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition to Richland Library, the Turning Pages Reading Lab is also offered twice a week for residents at Transitions Homeless Shelter<\/strong>, led by instructor Belinda McEachern<\/strong>, where volunteers are also welcome.<\/p>\n
