Before the modern game of golf evolved into fairways, flags, and formal scoring, players simply hit balls toward targets across big grassy fields. The concept of a “hole” came later, giving us a way to keep score and shaping the layout of what we now call a course.<\/p>\n

When I was teaching golf classes at the University of South Carolina, many students started to see the game not just as a hobby, but as a skill that could open professional doors—especially in careers where golf is part of the networking scene.<\/p>\n

I’ll never forget one Scandinavian student who always called putting “buting”—as in, “I but the ball in the hole!” It might’ve been a language mix-up, but honestly, she wasn’t wrong. The goal is<\/em> to get the ball in the hole, right?<\/p>\n

Putting sounds<\/em> simple—just a short stroke on the green—but under pressure? That’s a different game. Whether you’re trying to win a tournament or just avoid buying lunch for your buddy, putting becomes a real test of nerves.<\/p>\n

If you watch the pros, you’ll notice dozens of different putting styles and putters. Everyone’s chasing that one magical method that works every time<\/em>—still looking, by the way!<\/p>\n
