His performance earned him a <strong data-start=\"470\" data-end=\"480\">$4,259<\/strong> payday and marked his <strong data-start=\"503\" data-end=\"527\">first career BFL win<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"634\">Wicker found success using an &ldquo;old-school&rdquo; approach&mdash;slowing things down and sticking to familiar waters.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"636\" data-end=\"828\">\n<p data-start=\"638\" data-end=\"828\">&ldquo;I was basically just throwing a worm around,&rdquo; Wicker said. &ldquo;I caught the big one (a 6-pound, 10-ounce bass) out of a brush pile. The rest were on your typical summer spots&mdash;rocks and brush.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"945\">With a <strong data-start=\"837\" data-end=\"857\">three-fish limit<\/strong> in place for the tournament, Wicker said he was able to focus on quality over quantity.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"947\" data-end=\"1096\">\n<p data-start=\"949\" data-end=\"1096\">&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know that I would&rsquo;ve done what I did with a five-fish limit. It makes it easier mentally to just go throw a big worm and get three bites.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1098\" data-end=\"1231\">Despite only having a half-day to practice, Wicker stuck to one key area and relied on the <strong data-start=\"1189\" data-end=\"1209\">Zoom Ol&rsquo; Monster<\/strong> worm to seal the win.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1233\" data-end=\"1378\">\n<p data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1378\">&ldquo;I have a couple brush piles that are really good, but outside of those, there&rsquo;s a lot of dead brush.
