LEXINGTON, SC<\/strong> – Get ready to read, explore, and have fun this summer as the Lexington County Public Library<\/strong> launches its annual Summer Reading Program<\/strong> on Friday, May 30<\/strong>. Running through August 1<\/strong>, the theme this year is Color Our World<\/em>, and it’s open to readers of all ages.<\/p>\n

“Reading together is quality time,” said Youth Services Coordinator Jennifer Smith<\/strong>. “It builds strong bonds and keeps young minds sharp through the summer.” Without regular reading, kids can lose up to two months of academic progress, making this program especially important for school-aged children.<\/p>\n

Participants can track their reading online through the Beanstack Tracker App<\/strong> or use a paper log, available at any of the library’s 10 branches. Children who sign up will receive a free book<\/strong>, and readers of all ages can earn prizes<\/strong> such as tote bags, restaurant vouchers, and entries into grand prize drawings.<\/p>\n

Each library branch will host kickoff events<\/strong> to start the summer off with fun and entertainment. Dates and times for these events can be found at lexcolibrary.com\/summerreading<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The program also features a full calendar of free events<\/strong> throughout the summer, including performances by Porkchop Productions<\/strong>, Didgeridoo Down Under<\/strong>, and author talks with Mary Alice Monroe<\/strong> and Karen White<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sponsors include Habit Burger & Grill, Columbia Museum of Art, Pelican’s Snoballs, Texas Roadhouse, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Lexington County Blowfish, Salsarita’s, and Frankie’s Fun Park.<\/p>\n
