The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission (ICRC) is set to break ground on the highly anticipated Saluda Shoals Riverwalk at 2 p.m. on April 29, at the Upper Boat Landing of Saluda Shoals Park.<\/p>\n
Formerly known as the Lower Saluda Greenway, this ambitious project will create an 8.5-mile paved, multi-use path along the north side of the Lower Saluda River, enhancing regional connectivity and promoting active transportation between Lexington, Irmo, Columbia, West Columbia, and Cayce.<\/p>\n
\n“This groundbreaking marks a new chapter in connecting our communities through safe, accessible, and enjoyable outdoor spaces,” said Mark Smyers<\/strong>, ICRC Executive Director.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
A Path Toward Connectivity and Wellness<\/h3>\n
The Riverwalk will link neighborhoods, businesses, and recreational areas while offering a scenic route for walking, biking, and outdoor enjoyment. It also reflects strong community advocacy for safe, non-motorized pathways and healthier lifestyles.<\/p>\n
\n“This Riverwalk will not only make it easier for people to access parks and trails but will also contribute to the long-term quality of life for residents,” Smyers added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
