The University of South Carolina women’s basketball team will not have the services of junior forward Ashlyn Watkins for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n
School officials confirmed the Cardinal Newman graduate suffered a torn ACL during the Jan. 5 win over Mississippi State. She will undergo surgery in the coming weeks, according to the school release.<\/p>\n
The junior missed the start of the regular season. She was suspended from the team following her arrest following an incident on Aug. 31.<\/p>\n
Watkins was charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping, but they were dismissed in November by a judge after she completed a pre-trial intervention program.<\/p>\n
Since returning to the Gamecocks, Watkins had averaged 7.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.86 blocks in 14 games.<\/p>\n
