Irmo, S.C.<\/strong> – Car enthusiasts, get ready! Capital City\/Lake Murray Country (CCLMC) is gearing up to welcome the Hemmings Motor News Great Race<\/strong>, presented by Coker Tire, on Sunday, June 29, 2025<\/strong>. This nine-day, 2,300-mile rally of classic cars will conclude its journey at Moore Park<\/strong> (formerly Irmo Community Park), showcasing over 120 antique vehicles in a grand automotive spectacle.<\/p>\n

A Race and Festival Rolled Into One<\/h3>\n

The Great Race is more than just a competition; it’s an event that celebrates history, precision, and community. Visitors will marvel at pre-1974 cars, trucks, and motorcycles, interact with international drivers, and even let kids climb into some of the classic vehicles. Best of all, the event is free<\/strong> to attend!<\/p>\n

“When the Great Race pulls into a town, it transforms into a festival,” said Jeff Stumb<\/strong>, Great Race Director. “With over 250,000 attendees last year, the energy and excitement are unmatched.”<\/p>\n

Irmo’s Role in the Grand Finale<\/h3>\n

The rally will make its way through Newberry and the western Lake Murray area before crossing the finish line at Irmo’s Moore Park.<\/p>\n

Miriam Atria<\/strong>, President\/CEO of CCLMC, expressed her excitement: “We’re honored to host the finale of the Great Race. It’s a chance to showcase our beautiful region and Southern hospitality to visitors from across the globe!”<\/p>\n

A Historic Lineup<\/h3>\n

The Great Race will feature participants from countries like Japan, England, Australia, and Canada, as well as the U.S., with cars as old as a 1912 Haynes<\/strong> and a 1918 American LaFrance<\/strong> taking part.<\/p>\n

The rally challenges drivers to navigate secret checkpoints and follow precise daily instructions, with strategy playing a key role. Competing for a $160,000 prize purse<\/strong>, including a $50,000 grand prize<\/strong>, the race will crown the lowest-scoring team as the winner.<\/p>\n
