Guests can enjoy two planetarium or 4D theater shows for the price of one, making it the perfect time to explore the museum&#8217;s immersive experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This August marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the museum&rsquo;s observatory, planetarium, and 4D theater,&rdquo; said State Museum Executive Director Amy Bartow-Melia. &ldquo;We are so excited to celebrate this milestone and look forward to guests visiting and enjoying these amazing shows.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h3>Featured Shows:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Solar Superstorms<\/strong> (Planetarium): Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, this show takes viewers into the Sun&rsquo;s magnetic fields and superhot plasma, showcasing dramatic flares, solar tornadoes, and coronal mass ejections. The experience includes scientific visualizations computed on the Blue Waters supercomputing initiative.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Turtle Odyssey 4D<\/strong>: Follow Bunji, a baby Australian green sea turtle, as she grows into adulthood while navigating the dangers of the ocean. Encounter sharks, octopuses, whales, and more in this immersive 4D journey.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The South Carolina State Museum has been a hub of exploration since the opening of its BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Planetarium, the Rev. Dr. Solomon Jackson, Jr. 4D Interactive Theater, and a state-of-the-art Observatory in 2014. Over the past decade, nearly 500,000 planetarium tickets have been sold, and the Observatory has welcomed 420,000 guests, including 41,000 students and educators.<\/p>\n<h3>Ticket Information:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>General Admission<\/strong>: $13 for adults, $11 for seniors, $10 for children ages 3-12. Infants 2 and under are free.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Planetarium and 4D Shows<\/strong>: Tickets are an additional charge. Every Saturday in August, shows are discounted to 2 for 1 (or $5 for two shows).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and on Sunday from noon to 5 pm.
