Chief Terrence Green would like to notify the Town of Lexington community about a shooting death that Lexington Police Department, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office are investigating.<\/p>\n
At approximately 5:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West Main Street to a location behind the Town Square shopping center near the closed Kmart for a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers found a woman, age 72 of Gilbert, with a gunshot wound to the face and immediately began rendering aid until Lexington County EMS arrived.<\/p>\n
The woman passed away while being transported to the hospital.<\/p>\n
The victim has been identified as Judy Burnett, 72, of Gilbert, the coroner confirmed.<\/p>\n
Officers found a man, age 49 of Lexington, at the scene with a handgun. He was taken into investigative detention and is being interviewed by detectives.<\/p>\n
A witness at the scene stated that the shooting had occurred during an argument.<\/p>\n
