COLUMBIA — The City of Columbia’s Solid Waste Division will host its annual Free Compost Giveaway this Saturday, April 4, offering residents a chance to pick up nutrient-rich compost for gardening and landscaping.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Columbia Animal Services Facility, with the compost distribution site located just before the animal shelter at 123 Humane Lane.
Columbia residents are invited to receive free compost while supplies last. City staff will be on hand to assist with loading materials into vehicles, trailers and trucks, helping ensure a smooth and efficient pickup process.
Officials noted that the giveaway is intended for residential use only, and commercial businesses are not eligible to participate. Additionally, the City will not provide hauling services to transport compost to other locations.
The annual event is part of Columbia’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and provide residents with resources to support healthy lawns and gardens.
