The city of Columbia will hold its 37th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Service this Saturday, January 25, at 4 p.m. The event will take place at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, located at 2300 Green Street.

A wreath-laying ceremony will precede the service at 3:06 p.m. at the corner of Harden and Green Street, honoring Dr. King’s legacy in the heart of Columbia.

Dr. John H. Dozier, President of Columbia College, will deliver the keynote address. With a background as a corporate consultant and higher education leader, Dr. Dozier has spent 21 years championing equity, belonging, and student success. His career highlights include serving as the first Chief Diversity Officer at the University of South Carolina and holding key leadership roles at City Colleges of Chicago.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Dozier and his wife, Victoria, co-founded The Language Buzz, Columbia’s first world-language learning center. Together, they have three children: Olivia, Evans, and Sophia.
