Cayce, S.C., May 29, 2024 – The Greater Cayce West Columbia Chamber of Commerce honored South Carolina Senator Nikki G. Setzler during their monthly breakfast meeting on Tuesday, May 28. Senator Setzler, who announced he will not seek re-election in 2024, was celebrated for his long and distinguished career in public service.
Setzler’s political journey began in 1976 when he was elected as the Democratic representative for the 26th District. Over the decades, he served with dedication, notably holding the position of Minority Leader until he stepped down in 2020. Following the resignation of North Dakota’s Ray Holmberg in 2022, Setzler became the longest-serving state senator in the nation.
Throughout his tenure, Setzler has been a significant figure in South Carolina politics, particularly as the only elected Democrat representing a portion of Lexington County above the county level. His commitment to his constituents and his efforts in the Senate have left a lasting impact on the community.
During the breakfast meeting, CWC Chamber CEO Tim James, along with Mrs. Ada Setzler and the senator’s daughter Jamie, joined in honoring Setzler. Attendees praised his years of service and contributions to the state.
“Senator Setzler has been a pillar of our community and a steadfast advocate for our district,” said James. “His dedication and leadership will be greatly missed.”
