Chapin Presbyterian Church will host a free community seminar, Planning for Tomorrow . . . Today: Retiring and Dying Successfully, August 23 from 5 – 7 pm at the church, 600 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin.
Life is full of transitions, difficult decisions and unexpected events. Planning ahead can reduce uncertainty and help families prepare for the future. This educational workshop will provide practical information about important legal, financial, healthcare, retirement, and end-of-life decisions. • Estate and end-of-life planning, including powers of attorney, wills, Desire for a Natural Death declarations, beneficiary designations, probate, and understanding Probate Court.
• Retirement and financial planning, budgeting, maintaining good physical and mental health, working effectively with healthcare providers, saving money, prescription-drug awareness, basic investing strategies, preventing cybercrime, spam and unwanted marketing, and using artificial intelligence in everyday life to solve problems and develop strategies.
Workshop leaders
Mike DuBose is a retired owner of several businesses, a former licensed counselor, and an Adjunct Professor with the USC graduate school. Through his own estate-planning experience, he worked with highly experienced attorneys, estate and financial planners, and accountants and gained extensive knowledge about estate planning, taxes, and finances. He partners with attorney Rhett Eleazer to voluntarily help guide families in hospice through the end-of-life process.
Attorney Laura Huggins graduated first in her class from Furman University and from the USC Law School. She practices business, real estate, estate planning, and probate administration law. Huggins serves as a board member of various foundations and organizations, including Trustee of Chapin Presbyterian Church.
