Literacy SC, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to improving reading skills for learners of all ages, has announced its Executive Board leadership for the 2026 term as the organization launches a new three-year strategic plan aimed at expanding services across South Carolina.
The 2026 appointments coincide with the rollout of Literacy SC’s 2026–2028 roadmap, which focuses on increasing program capacity and ensuring consistent, high-quality instruction through both in-person and virtual offerings statewide.
The newly seated 2026 Executive Officers are:
-
Board Chair: Nitiki Satterwhite, Southern Mutual Church Insurance Company
-
Vice Chair: Dr. Theresa Harrison, University of South Carolina
-
Secretary: Suzanne Shire, retired educator
-
Treasurer: Dr. Suzanne D. Miller, EssayFaire
Literacy SC’s 15-member Board of Directors oversees the organization’s culture, governance, and long-term financial health.
“Our learners are folks eager to work and ready to lead, but they need foundational reading skills to get there,” said Lisa Cole, CEO of Literacy SC. “This board makes sure we have the backbone to meet growing demand across South Carolina without losing the personalized, local touch that actually changes lives.”
Literacy SC currently operates multiple in-person programs in Richland, Lexington, Aiken, and Saluda counties through 27 partner sites. The organization also offers statewide virtual programs, including Reading Begins Here, expanding access to learners regardless of location.
The nonprofit’s staff-led spring term runs from Jan. 19 through May 23 and includes all small-group programs.
