{"id":8523,"date":"2026-05-25T13:56:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T13:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gpstrianglenews.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/25\/8523\/"},"modified":"2026-05-25T13:56:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T13:56:57","slug":"8523","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gpstrianglenews.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/25\/8523\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"159\" data-end=\"182\"><i>By Thomas Grant Jr.<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"184\" data-end=\"389\">For the 21st consecutive season&mdash;and 11th in <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County<\/span><\/span>&mdash;summer will once again feature <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Coastal Plain League<\/span><\/span> action from the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County Blowfish<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"391\" data-end=\"598\">The new season kicks off Thursday on the road against the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Florence Flamingos<\/span><\/span>. On Friday, the Blowfish officially open their home schedule against the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Macon Bacon<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"600\" data-end=\"849\">The following night, the first home exhibition game featuring the Glowfish will be preceded by the third annual USO softball game between the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Richland County Sheriff&rsquo;s Department<\/span><\/span> and the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County Sheriff&rsquo;s Department<\/span><\/span>, beginning at 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"1002\">The contest is part of USO Night, with proceeds benefiting the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">United Service Organizations<\/span><\/span>, which assists service members and their families.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"10mvv6u\" data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1034\">June Promotions and Events<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1403\"><strong data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1098\">June 5 &middot; Dress Like a Farmer Night &amp; Cowfish Jerseys Debut<\/strong><br data-start=\"1098\" data-end=\"1101\" \/>Fans are encouraged to break out overalls, boots, and their best farmer attire. In partnership with the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington County Farm Bureau<\/span><\/span>, the Blowfish will debut their cow-print &ldquo;Cowfish&rdquo; jerseys. A live auction for the jerseys will conclude at the end of the game, followed by postgame fireworks.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1405\" data-end=\"1631\"><strong data-start=\"1405\" data-end=\"1451\">June 6 &middot; Cowboys, Cowgirls &amp; Cowfish Night<\/strong><br data-start=\"1451\" data-end=\"1454\" \/>The western theme continues with prizes provided by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Ariat<\/span><\/span>. Fans are encouraged to dress the part and enjoy a second night of Cowfish festivities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1844\"><strong data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1662\">June 12 &middot; Star Wars Night<\/strong><br data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1665\" \/>Fans can come in costume or casual attire for one of the team&rsquo;s most popular themed nights, capped off with postgame fireworks inspired by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Star Wars<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"2218\"><strong data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"1873\">June 19 &middot; Hooties Night<\/strong><br data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"1876\" \/>Last year&rsquo;s Coastal Plain League Promotion of the Year returns, with players wearing specialty Hooties USA jerseys. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lexington Health Foundation<\/span><\/span> Partners Program. The evening will also include the Blowfish Alumni Game, featuring former players competing against the current roster.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2220\" data-end=\"2223\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"2225\" data-end=\"2546\">This year&rsquo;s roster features 38 players. Returning standouts with local ties include Parker Mergo (Brookland-Cayce\/Newberry), who has earned the title of &ldquo;Mr. Blowfish,&rdquo; Blake Martin (Dutch Fork), Jayden Williams (Spring Valley\/The Citadel), Toby Sobieralski (Lexington\/USC Aiken), and Lucas Highberger (Chapin\/USC Aiken).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2548\" data-end=\"2822\">The Blowfish will also have a new look in the dugout. <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Ted Falkner<\/span><\/span> takes over as head coach. A veteran at the collegiate level, Falkner brings five years of summer league experience and has previously coached at USC Beaufort, Madonna, and Viterbo.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2824\" data-end=\"3134\">&ldquo;My family and I are really blessed and excited for this opportunity,&rdquo; Falkner said. &ldquo;After meeting with Bill Shanahan and talking with Tony Baldwin, I felt that this organization is special. Lexington County and its love and history for baseball is something I can&rsquo;t wait to be a part of for the 2026 season.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3136\" data-end=\"3289\">Falkner inherits a team that has reached the postseason three consecutive years and is just two seasons removed from a Coastal Plain League championship.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3291\" data-end=\"3563\">&ldquo;I&rsquo;m looking for players who are committed&mdash;to the process, to what it takes to play at the next level, and to personal growth and development,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I want guys who love the game, embrace the Lexington County community, and represent this organization the right way.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3565\" data-end=\"3769\">On the field, fans will also notice a major upgrade.
