Ok, Husbands and\nwives, friends and lovers are you ready for the annual LMYRA couples Race?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This race can be\na real test of teamwork between husband and wife, friends, lovers or a test of\ntheir relationship depending on their experience and approach to the racing and\nsailing in general. The results are always fun to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety thought\nfor this week:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety being\nfirst and foremost on the water I try to touch some element of the overall\nboating safety picture; this week it is electrical and battery maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe every\nboat on our Inland Sea should have two batteries with the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. (1) A Perko Switch that\npermits switching from the starter battery to the backup battery.<\/li>
  2. (2) A 15 watt solar\ncharger on each battery to keep them both hot when not in use.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Then there is\nthe matter of routine battery maintenance: Keep the battery terminals and all\nprimary wiring clean and corrosion free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    FYI: there are\nspray corrosion fighter chemicals available at auto parts stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And lastly keep\nthe battery fluid levels topped up with distilled (not tap) water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Please always\nthink about safety when Boating, Sailing or trailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For your own\nsafety\u2019s sake please consider the safety, maintenance, seamanship and\nnavigation courses and seminars offered by the Lake Murray Power Squadron and\nthe Lake Murray United State Coast auxiliary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
